Brazil is Motorola’s sweet spot, which is why we recently saw the launch event for the Moto G6 and Moto E5 handsets held in the South American country. We’ve also seen multiple cases where the Lenovo-owned company prioritizes software updates for the Brazilian market over any other, including soak tests.
For instance, the Moto Z2 Play started testing Android 8.0 Oreo in January 2018, but this was only reported in Brazil. Earlier this month, Motorola made an official announcement that those in the football-loving nation can download and install the stable version of Oreo on the phone, but it’s only now that talks of Moto Z2 Play Oreo updates in other regions are showing up.

It’s happening in Europe, where the Moto Z2 Play has now started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo over the air. Unlike Brazil, the latest Android Oreo update includes this month’s Android security patches and installs software version OPS27.76-12-25.
The OG Moto Z Play has already been updated to Android Oreo, but like its counterpart, the rollout is phased and thus some markets are yet to receive the OS. Meanwhile, Motorola is also expected to refresh the Moto Z series, just like it recently upgraded the Moto G and Moto E families.
Although we don’t have specific release dates, we do have a collection of leaks, rumors, and speculations about the next-gen Moto Z phones, which you can check out below.
