After years of waiting, Motorola finally released the update to Android Oreo for owners of the Moto G4 Plus early last month, but this was only reported in the U.S.

As for Canadians who still rock the nearly three-year-old budget phone, the Oreo update is set to arrive on March 18th. This is according to an update made to the official software support page for Rogers carrier.

To recall, the Moto G4 Plus was never supposed to be updated to Oreo, but this didn’t go well with owners of the handset, who pushed the company to promise to provide an update. Motorola caved in but insisted that they won’t be in a hurry to push the update since the device wasn’t in its initial Oreo plans.

Last September, Motorola finally opened the beta testing program and more than five months later, the stable rollout started in the U.S. Typically, Canadians have always lagged behind in terms of software updates, so it doesn’t surprise us that the Moto G4 Plus on Rogers will be joining the Oreo party more than a month after those in the U.S. got the nod.

The update to Oreo is the second major OS upgrade for the Moto G4 Plus, which isn’t common with the budget Moto G series.
