Moto E 2nd Gen. receiving an OTA update with December security patch, build 24.71.4.en.03

A new software update is currently being seeded to the Moto E 2nd generation. This is a minor update that installs the December Android security patch.

The update is for the 2nd generation Motorola Moto E, which was released in February 2015. The new software build number is 24.71.4.en.03, and it is currently available as an OTA update. If you haven’t received the update yet, do not worry, it will be available soon. You can manually check for the update from Settings > About phone > System Updates.

Make sure you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the update. This OTA update weighs in at around 50MB. It is also recommended that your device has more than 50 percent charge before installing the security update.

The Moto E 2nd Gen remains on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and will not receive the update to Nougat. Even the 3rd Gen Moto E won’t be getting the Nougat update.
