Xiaomi has finally released the new version of its custom user interface, MIUI 9, today at an event in Beijing, China. Based on Android Nougat 7.0, the latest MIUI 9 comes with new features and enhanced user interface.

Xiaomi launched the first version of the MIUI ROM in 2010. Till now, the ROM has been translated into 55 languages and witnessed over 2.8 billion downloads in 142 countries.

With MIUI 9, Xiaomi has brought about significant changes in three particular spheres which are Image Search, Smart Assistant, and Smart App Launcher.

The Smart Assistant which lets you search anything from photos to apps, text and notes look akin to Google Assistant. On the other hand, the Image Search allows you to search images of person or even location by keywords.

Another new feature brought by the MIUI 9 is Smart App Launcher. As the name suggests, this feature lets you launch an app based on the content of your conversation.

Enhancing the user experience, Xiaomi has announced that MIUI 9 will accelerate the launch of apps by optimized thread scheduling and CPU acceleration as well as better haptic feedback. Another feature introduced is split-screem mode and app-prioritization wherein the most used apps will automatically get prioritized to ensure smooth performance.

However, as of now most of the new features including the smart assistant, image search, and smart app launcher will remain confined to the parent country. Xiaomi is yet to reveal when these features, and if at all, will be included in the global MIUI 9 build which we expect the company to announce soon.
