MIUI 9 to feature PIP and Splitscreen functionality

A new report from China suggest that MIUI 9 would include several new features and be much smoother and faster. It would come with features such as a Picture-in-Picture mode, Multi-screen mode, Screen recorder and more.

As of now, nothing is really known about the release date of MIUI 9, but the report confirms that it is heavily under development. It is possible that the update could be announced as soon as July. We’ve also heard that users will be able to uninstall system apps in MIUI 9.

According to the report, the developers are also trying to bring the Split-screen functionality to Android 6.0 devices. The latest MIUI 8 version which is based on Nougat, will also get new features such as split-screen, very soon.

Most of the high-end smartphones from Xiaomi that run Android 7.0 Nougat will receive the MIUI 9 update. That includes the Mi 6, Mi 5c, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi Pad 3, Redmi 4X, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X, Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi 5, Mi 5s Plus, Mi MAX. An exact release date isn’t known yet, but we will keep you updated. You can expect Xiaomi to announce MIUI 9 with plenty of new features in the next two months.

  1. wow!! they added some cool features in the Nougat update and many have been waiting for the split screen feature, wish it contains the DOuble tap to wake up as well which was missing on 6.0 but it’s sad that they r not upgrading the majority of Xiaomi phones like Redmi note3 and Redmi 3S users in India with the Nougat goodness, they were really looking forward to it but now it seems like there is no point waiting for it, on the other side all the Mi5 users in India will be happy to hear this news!!

  2. Really good move by enabling the people to uninstall system apps .I remember when MIUI was just another custom ROM that one could choose if they prefered the iOS like theme and now they’ve reached such heights with it 🙂

  3. Picture in picture mode is actually a feature google is trying to bring to the Android O or Android 8.0 which hasn’t even reached beta testing yet. And Xiaomi has already started working on this and release to the marshmallow devices too? Wow. That is something that doesn’t happen everyday. An OEM working neck to neck with google and trying to release android 8.0 features to android 6.0 devices.
