In March, Xiaomi announced a list of devices that will be updated to MIUI 9.5 and on the same day, we also came across the first instance of the updated skin in action thanks to a leaked Redmi Note 5 Pro firmware, which was based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Several devices have since been updated to the new MIUI 9.5, the Redmi 3S and 3S Prime, Mi Max 2 and of course, the Mi A1. As per the roadmap, the new MIUI 9.5 should now be available for those using the Redmi 4 (Redmi 4X), Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus as well as Redmi Note 5.

And indeed Xiaomi isn’t playing around as the company has already availed download files for the respective devices. Even though the new MIUI 9.5 is associated with Android Oreo, the devices in question aren’t getting Oreo, rather, the update only brings Xiaomi-made changes and updates based on Nougat 7.1.

Of course, we expect Android Oreo to come to the Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi Note 5 later this year, but the exact dates are still unknown.

Where the Redmi 4(4X) is getting software version V9.5.4.0.NAMMIFA (MIUI9), Redmi 5 users are receiving software version V9.5.7.0.NDAMIFA (MIUI9). Since the Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi Note 5 are basically the same device, they are both receiving the same software version V9.5.4.0.NEGMIFA (MIUI9).

The updates are rolling out over the air and since they are quite heavy, be sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network when you eventually receive the OTA notification to download the software.
