What to know

  • Mistfall Hunter features full crossplay across PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Cross-progression (cross-save) is not supported at launch.
  • Characters, inventory, stash, gold, and progression do not transfer between platforms.
  • Choose your main platform carefully if you plan to invest significant time into the game.

If you’re planning to play Mistfall Hunter across multiple devices, it’s important to understand the difference between crossplay and cross-progression. While the game makes it easy to team up with friends regardless of platform, it does not currently let you carry your character and progress between systems. Here’s everything you need to know before deciding where to start your adventure.

Crossplay✅ Yes
Cross-progression❌ No

Mistfall Hunter supports crossplay but not cross-progression

Bellring Games launched Mistfall Hunter with full cross-platform multiplayer. Whether you’re playing on Steam, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, you can join the same matchmaking pool and form parties together. This means platform choice won’t stop you from playing with friends.

However, cross-progression is currently unavailable.

Your game data remains tied to the platform where your character was created. If you later purchase the game on another platform, you’ll need to start over with a brand-new character. Your existing progress won’t appear on the new platform.

What does not transfer between platforms?

Since cross-save isn’t supported, virtually all progression stays on your original platform.

ProgressTransfers?
Characters❌ No
Character level❌ No
Inventory❌ No
Stash❌ No
Gold/Currency❌ No
Equipment❌ No
Quest progress❌ No
Unlocks❌ No

Buying the game twice does not merge your accounts or synchronize your progress. Each platform effectively has its own separate save.

What still works across platforms?

Even though progression is separate, multiplayer functionality is shared.

You can:

  • Play with friends on PC, PS5, and Xbox.
  • Form cross-platform parties.
  • Matchmake into the same PvPvE raids.
  • Fight against players from every supported platform.

Instead of using Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox friends lists, you’ll invite players using the game’s Player ID through the in-game social system.

How to invite friends on another platform

  1. Joining friends is fairly straightforward once you’ve unlocked the game’s hub. Complete the introductory section until multiplayer features become available.
  2. Open the Social menu.
  3. Ask your friend for their in-game Player ID.
  4. Search for that Player ID.
  5. Send the friend request.
  6. Invite them to your party and begin matchmaking together.

This process works regardless of whether your friend is playing on Steam, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.

Should you buy the game on multiple platforms?

That depends on how you intend to play.

If you simply want the flexibility of using different devices, remember that you’ll maintain completely separate characters on each platform.

For example:

ScenarioResult
Start on Steam, later buy PS5 versionMust create a new character
Start on Xbox, later move to PCProgress does not transfer
Own multiple versionsSeparate saves on each platform

Unless Bellring Games introduces cross-progression in a future update, your safest approach is to pick one primary platform and stick with it.

Why doesn’t cross-progression exist?

Bellring Games hasn’t provided a detailed technical explanation, but the feature simply isn’t available at launch.

Many live-service extraction games launch with crossplay first because it keeps matchmaking healthy, while cross-save requires additional account linking and synchronization systems.

For now, the developers have only confirmed cross-platform multiplayer, not shared progression.

Could cross-progression arrive later?

It’s certainly possible, but nothing has been officially announced.

The developers have an active post-launch roadmap focused on new content, classes, combat improvements, and quality-of-life updates, but cross-progression hasn’t been confirmed as a future feature. Until Bellring Games announces otherwise, players should assume saves will remain platform-specific.

Which platform should you choose?

If you’re deciding where to begin, consider:

PlatformBest For
PC (Steam)Higher frame rates, graphics settings, keyboard & mouse
PlayStation 5Console players and DualSense support
Xbox Series XS

Since progress can’t move later, choose the platform you’ll spend the most time on, especially if you expect to invest dozens or hundreds of hours into your character.

Mistfall Hunter delivers one of the most important multiplayer features players asked for—full crossplay—making it easy to raid alongside friends regardless of platform. However, cross-progression is not available, meaning every platform maintains its own independent save data.

If you’re just getting started, the best decision is to commit to a single platform. Doing so will prevent losing access to your character progression should you decide to switch devices later. Until Bellring Games officially introduces cross-save support, your characters, gear, currency, and progression will remain exclusive to the platform where they were created.
