The LG G6 is receiving a huge OTA update with October security patch in Canada. We spotted the update rolling out to Telus users, but it should be available to other carrier variants of the device as well.
Weighing in at 770MB, the update changelog only mentions “Phone usability and functionality has been further improved”, which doesn’t justify the update’s size. But users who have installed the update confirms that it brings October security patch.
The LG G6 update comes with firmware version V15c-OCT-26-2017 and is rolling out to all supported variants of G6 (H873) in Canada. If you haven’t received the update notification yet on your device, head over to Settings to manually check for an update.
Apart from security patches and bug fixes, this huge OTA update might be in preparation for the upcoming LG G6 Oreo update which we spotted on GeekBench late last month. If LG’s track record for major Android upgrades is anything to go by, the Android 8.0 update for LG devices should be really close and we may see a public release by the end of this month or early in December 2017.
