Lenovo Payment Band (Fitness Tracker 2) to launch soon, is Bluetooth certified

A certification document pointing to a new Lenovo Fitness tracker has been spotted on Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s website. The listing for the so-called fitness tracker identifies it as a ‘Payments Band’.

Now, you must be wondering, what the heck is a Payments band? Well, as suggested by the listing (the image above), this fitness tracker seems to be equipped with a digital payment solution or wallet of some kind; akin to Android Pay, Apple Pay and so on.

Identified by the Model No. SW-B110, this device is described as having support for Beijing/Shanghai/Guangzhou/Shenzen One-Card application, which we speculate to be some kind of singular all-inclusive payment method in China.

Also, it supposedly supports Union pay or designated bank wearable payment applications. We speculate, this wearable’s SDK will be opened up to Banks and other financial institutions to create dedicated wearable apps for this band.

Lenovo is supposedly targeting this as a “Wrist-Wallet” which also keeps you fit and fighting. Other notable features as suggested by the report, include one-on-one Activity Tracking, Step Counter, Pedometer, Distance, Walking and Running monitors.

Other features of the Lenovo payment band cum fitness tracker include: Gesture Control; use of the motion detector G-sensor as a replacement of click gestures just as in the Fitbit Flex; Clock; and ‘Twist the Wrist’ to ‘Wake’ things up.

The Hardware Version No. is mentioned as V2.1 and the Software Version No. is mentioned as V1.0.0. Its Bluetooth specification is V4.1; whether LE (Low Energy) or not, we do not know as of yet, but it should be Low energy one.

Screen size, quality, resolution, whether the display is monochrome, e-ink, AMOLED, LCD or any other; are also unknown as of writing.

The Band is yet to be confirmed or announced, so no point in wondering about pricing, availability or anything else. Whatever the final outcome, one thing is for sure, it is definitely going to be a consumer product as the listing clearly mentions it as an end product.

We can keep on speculating all we want until official word from Lenovo is out. But as it stands now, this device definitely comes with Bluetooth capabilities, and we also expect it to feature NFC.

So, what do you guys think about it? Given that Lenovo’s only fitness tracker, launched back in 2014, was priced sub-$100, we think this would be a budget-offering too.
