Lenovo ZUK Series
The ZUK Edge is officially announced and will be shipping soon in all parts of the world where Lenovo does business. The device comes with Android 7.0 pre-installed, and should receive the 7.1.1 update by February, 2017. The ZUK Z2/ Z2 Pro, released earlier this year, which currently runs on Marshmallow will be the first devices to receive Nougat updates from Lenovo.
The Lenovo ZUK Z2 Plus has received the Nougat update thanks to a leaked firmware. However, the ZUK Z1 will not receive Nougat update as its hardware is not supported.
Lenovo Vibe Series
The Vibe K5/ K5 Plus will be the first in the series to receive Nougat update sometime in January, 2017. The Vibe P1/ P1 Turbo will receive their OS upgrades by Q2 2017 along with Vibe X3. But, the Vibe X3 c78 will not receive Nougat update, for its hardware is not supported. The Vibe X1 is old enough not to be considered for further OS upgrades.
The Vibe S1/S1 Lite are budget phones currently running on Marshmallow. It’s unlikely that Lenovo would dedicate its time on such a device for OS upgrade. The Vibe Shot and Vibe K4 are also unlikely to attract dedicated Nougat updates. The MediaTek 6735P powered Vibe P1m also may face the same fate as Vibe K4. The Vibe C and Vibe A are low-end budget phones, which absolutely stands no chance to receive Nougat attention.
Lenovo Phab Series
Only the Phab2 Pro may get a chance to get the Nougat update as the Phab 2/Phab 2 Plus lack hardware support. The original Phab/ Phab Plus won’t be considered for the update as they’re older.
Lenovo K Series
The recently launched K6/K6 Note/K6 Power, all of which run on Marshmallow may never see Nougat light considering their budget nature. The K5 Note may receive the Nougat update in early 2017, but the K3 Note/K80 are out of question considering age factor.
Lenovo A Series
The A series is budget in nature. The A7000/A7000 Plus/A7000 Turbo/A6600/A6600 Plus were all launched with Marshmallow and is likely to stay where they are.
The older devices like A616/A6010/ A6010 Plus/ A6000/ A6000 Plus/A5000/A3900/A3690/A2010/A1900A1000/A Plus would not be considered by Lenovo for further upgrades.
Lenovo C Series
Another pair of budget devices in C2/ C2 Power will also remain on the Marshmallow OS and won’t get newer OS.
Miscellaneous Devices
All of S60/P90/P70/P2 and Lemon 3 can all be deemed old to see Nougat OS running on them.
Lenovo devices are not so popular in the developer’s domain and doesn’t find much representation in custom ROM world. Lenovo has been producing decent devices in the budget mid-range with reasonable specs. It has taken its daring to the next level by announcing ZUK Edge. Lenovo, like other OEMs, looks all set to meet Google’s requirement of frequent OS upgrades by gearing up for its Nougat releases.
