It had been said before that Samsung is planning to release at least three variants of the Galaxy S10, but things changed earlier this month when details emerged claiming that there will be another, probably fourth, variant exclusive to 5G connectivity. Well, thanks to a leaked Galaxy S9 Android 9 Pie firmware, we now have more concrete evidence that there will indeed be up to four variants of the S10.

We’ve already seen several unofficial Pie updates targeting the flagship Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, but the latest version is, well, official. Not only does it give us an early look into what Pie and Samsung Experience 10 are lining up, but the firmware also has details about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10, which is not unusual at all.

In a teardown of the S9+ Pie firmware done by XDA Developers, it has been established that the Galaxy S10 will come in four variants codenamed “beyond 0”, “beyond 1”, “beyond 2”, and “beyond 2 5G”. We already knew about the first three, but as mentioned, it’s only recently that the 5G variant popped up and based on this development, it seems it actually exists.

It had been mooted that the 5G version will simply be the Galaxy S10+ with a 5G modem and it will be a limited edition both for the Exynos and Snapdragon editions whereas beyond 0 will be an entry-level model with toned-down flagship specs and features.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S10 in Q1 2019, probably at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain. It is only then that we’ll get to verify these details, so sit tight.
