India’s own MWC event ‘India Mobile Congress’ to be held in September this year

India will be hosting its first Mobile World Congress-like event in September this year

The MWC 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain has just concluded, and there’s already news that India will be hosting its first ever Mobile World Congress like event called India Mobile Congress (IMC) in September this year. The focus, of course, will be on the South East Asian markets this time.

The three-day event will be hosted in the country’s capital city, New Delhi at Pragati Maidan starting September 27th. As is the case with Mobile World Congress, the Indian Mobile Congress will be organized by GSM Association. The event will be supported by Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics & IT and will be driven by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

Commenting on the same, Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI said, “There is Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and an edition in Shanghai. There is nothing in between for South East Asia. India is emerging as one of the global leaders in telecom which we will also showcase in the Indian Mobile Congress.”

As far as the participants are concerned, some of the major tech giants including the likes of Facebook, Huawei, Ericsson, Cisco among others are expected to be present at the IMC 2017. The event will also be a great platform for Chinese vendors to showcase their tech considering the fact that India has already become a huge market for their products.

Mathews mentioned that “other India business associations” have also been invited to be a part of the event. He added that “the event will focus on knowledge sharing, exhibition, startups, skill development and all pillars of Digital India including Make in India.”
