Close to a month ago, information leaked detailing devices that would be joining the EMUI 9.0 beta program that brings Android 9 Pie update to Huawei devices. On the list were both variants of the Huawei MediaPad M5 tablet, which is now receiving a new EMUI 9.0.1.56 update that tags along Pie.
The MediaPad M5 is the company’s current flagship tablet that launched earlier this year with Android Oreo on board. With the update to Pie, the slate will be getting things like a new intuitive design with a simplified UI, nature-inspired sounds/alarms/ringtones, simplified EMUI 9.0 settings, illustrated functionality, password vault, digital balance, faster launch times, and plenty of other additions and tweaks.

Speaking of tweaks, not all of them might be what you are looking forward to. For instance, after upgrading your MediaPad M5 to EMUI 9.0, you won’t be able to install and use third-party launchers, but this will be fixed in a future update.
Note that while the EMUI 9.0 update is expected on all variants of the M5, only the 8.4-inch variant has been reported to have received this update so far. Of course, it shouldn’t be long before the 10.8-inch model joins the party. Also, this update is still limited to the Chinese variant, but the rest should join in the fun sooner or later.
