Huawei has a new smartphone in town, the Huawei Nova 4, the first in the world to rock a 48MP camera lens on the back. As if not enough, the Chinese vendor went ahead and added two more lenses, making it a total of 66MP on the back camera and a whopping 91MP of camera lenses in total. But there is more to the Nova 4 than just plenty of megapixels.

The Nova 4 is the first from the company to rock a camera hole in the display screen. This is the latest technique smartphone vendors have turned to as they continue chasing the elusive full-screen design. Samsung also has a device, the Galaxy A8s, with a camera hole in the display screen and we should see more devices with this design released in 2019 onwards.

Under the hood, the Nova 4 packs solid hardware that includes a Kirin 970 chipset, 8GB RAM and as expected, it gets the latest software in town out of the box.

Here’s the specs sheet.

Huawei Nova 4 specs
  • 6.4-inch FHD+ (2310 x 1080) LCD display
  • Kirin 970 processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB expandable storage, up to 512GB
  • Tri-lens 48MP + 16MP + 2MP main camera
  • 25MP front camera
  • 3750mAh battery
  • Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0

Besides the punch-hole display design, the cameras of the Nova 4 are without a doubt the major highlight of the phone. We’ve seen how Huawei phones have become great in terms of photography over the recent past and the Nova 4 is definitely looking to keep up this trend, however, it is not yet known what exactly the 16MP and 2MP lenses are meant for.

The big battery will also ensure the device lasts the entire day. To fill it up, Huawei included support for 18W (9V/2A) fast charging technology that happens via a USB-C port, but not at the expense of the 3.5mm audio jack.

To get it off the shelves in China, fans will need CNY 3,399, an equivalent of about $493, €433 or INR 35,000. This should be in January 2019 and while availability outside China is still unknown, we think the phone will begin selling in more markets in mid or later stages of Q1 2019.
