Huawei took the smartphone world by storm when it announced the triple-lens totting Huawei P20 Pro a few months ago, but as we all know, this is not the company’s top-of-the-line smartphone. Later this year, we expect to see the Huawei Mate 20 accompanied by Pro and Lite variants.
Now, according to tipster Roland Quandt, the Huawei Mate 20 Lite will come in two variants codenamed “Sydney M” and “Sydney I” and while the two will share a name, it’s emerging that a few things will differ.

For instance, Quandt says one variant of the Mate 20 Lite has an accessory with a cutout for the fingerprint scanner on the back while the other doesn’t. While the speculation is that this could mean an in-display fingerprint scanner for a variant of the Mate 20 Lite, the lack of a cutout for the scanner on the back of one variant could simply mean the sensor will be on the front and not necessarily under the display. Despite, Huawei is a fan of front-facing fingerprint scanners and we won’t be surprised if this turns out to be the case.
Huawei Mate 20 Lite is codenamed "Sydney". There seem to be (at least?) two variants: Sydney M + Sydney I. Here's some speculation on my part: Why would there be different accessories for 'same' model? Hole for FP reader on back vs. no hole for FP reader on back = In screen FP?

Perhaps what looks plausible is Huawei going the Xiaomi way, where the Huawei Mate 20 Pro Porsche Edition could be the only variant with an in-display fingerprint scanner while the rest of the party will stick to the traditional sensor, with some models complemented by 3D sensing technology for face unlock.
