It is believed that the birth of Huawei’s Nova brand is as a result of the failed Pixel deal between Google and Huawei. After a highly successful Google Nexus 6P, it was almost certain that Huawei will keep its place for the phone’s successor, but instead, HTC took over the mantle – on a permanent basis.
The first in the Nova series came in 2016 and since then, the company hasn’t looked back. Last year witnessed the launch of the Nova 2 series and being the company it is Huawei iced it with more phones such as Nova 2s and Nova 2i. Despite its tender age, it’s already not easy to speculate on what’s next in line, but we have our first clue as to what the company could be working on for the near future.
According to a listing on TENAA, two unknown Huawei phones have been cleared for release in China and if we are right, these could be any of Huawei Nova 3, Huawei Y3 2018 or Huawei Y5 2018. Their predecessors were announced in May (Nova 3 and Y3 2018) and April 2017, respectively, which makes sense to think of the two as any of the three.
Other than the images, there isn’t much we can gather from the TENAA listings. One of the phones has been cleared with model number LDN-TL00 while the other – which has two variants – has model numbers FLA-AL00 and FLA-TL10. All phones will come with dual-SIM connectivity and run Android (Oreo) out of the box.
From the images, the phones have a nearly identical look on the front, featuring a full view design and minimal bezels, but the FLA-XXXX variant has a dual-lens selfie camera as opposed to the single-lens setup on the LDN-TL00. However, a dual-lens camera can be found on the back of all phones, although the arrangement is a little different as shown in the images below. Speaking of camera arrangements, the setup on the FLA variants hints at the Nova 3 and Nova 3 Plus, as shown in the side-by-side comparison below.
We don’t know anything about the internal specs of the Huawei LDN and FLA handsets, but we should get our eyes on more details sooner than later. Also, note that the mention of Huawei Nova 3, Huawei Y3 2018 and Y5 2018 with respect to the cleared devices is pure speculation, meaning things could be different when official details show up.
We’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned!
