The Honor 8 is without a doubt, an amazing device. And now, it’s also got Android 7.0 Nougat update to boot its claim to be one of the best device under its range. The Nougat update was already available as beta, which is nice considering how much time it took Samsung to roll out Nougat for its flagship Galaxy S7, but not that cool when you look how quickly OnePlus, Motorola and LG updated their offerings in OnePlus 3/3T, Moto G4 and Moto Z, and LG G5.
Lack of a proper developer community and the closed source Kirin chipset meant we didn’t get unofficial Nougat update via CM14/Lineage OS custom ROM for Honor 8. The device, which was released in mid-October last year was still running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow for most people, along with Huawei’s custom skin EMUI 4.1 atop.
This is not the case anymore. According to the Honor India blog, the beta phase for Nougat update for Honor 8 has officially ended. The Nougat update will be rolled out to the users by the end of February. Do note that the update will likely be rolled out in phases hence, users need to be patient while waiting for it.
Moreover, the update brings Android 7.0 along with EMUI 5.0, but that’s not the latest version of Android, which is Android 7.1.2.

Regardless, seeing Huawei honor its promise of updates is a step forward as it forces its competitors to update their devices in order to stay in the game. More information about the Nougat and EMUI 5.0 update for other devices is expected soon. The released update is also said to be very similar to the open beta for the device barring a few aesthetic changes.
