Sorry folks, if you were hoping for a 6.1” quad-core Android phablet by Huawei, then you will be disappointed to hear that the rumored Ascend Mate is actually the Honor 2, an upgrade to the original Huawei Honor and with a humble 4.5” display, which Huawei has officially announced.

Here are the official specs of the Honor 2:

  • 1.4GHz K3V2 Hisilicon Hi3620 quad-core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 4.5” IPS display, 1280 x 720 pixels
  • 8 megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording
  • VGA front camera
  • 8GB internal storage, microSD expansion
  • GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, USB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack
  • 2230mAh battery (rated at 23 days standby and 13 hours talktime)
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Barring the fact that it doesn’t run Jelly Bean, the Honor 2 has top of the line specs and is a worthy upgrade to the Honor. The pricing info hasn’t been announced, but we can expect it to be quite affordable for its specs as is the norm for devices from Chinese manufacturers.

Expect to hear more on the Huawei Honor 2, including release dates and pricing, pending further info. Would you be interested in buying one if the price is right?

Thanks Liu Xiang!
