Things are getting out of hand here folks. We still aren’t out of the madness of manufacturers aiming to make the thinnest smartphones, and now it seems there is a new fad to make the largest devices as possible and still call them a phone. Reportedly, Huawei is working on the Ascend Mate, a phone with a gigantic 6.1-inch display.
According to Mobile Geeks, the gargantuan Ascend Mate is expected to have a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (anything less than that would look very pixelated), a 1.8 GHz Quad Core K3C3 processor, 2GB RAM, and a 4000 mAh big battery, all in a body just not thicker than 9mm. The Mate will also run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
But is it a phone? A tablet? Or a phablet? I don’t think a 6.1-inch device fits in any of those categories, so maybe we will see a new breed of smartphone coerced into existence by the China-based manufacturer. Sony is also reportedly working on a 6-inch device, so maybe these 6-inch devices have something appealing to them that we don’t know about.
What do you guys think? Would you be interested in buying a 6-inch smartphone as a substitute for both a phone and tablet? The Galaxy Note 2 seems to be fine for people at 5.5-inches, so I guess 6-inches wouldn’t be too bad either. Right?
