And true to its word, the Taiwanese company is now rolling out the OS as version 3.22.709.2 and weighs 1.39GB, so be sure that you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection before attempting to upgrade.
So far, the update is available in Taiwan, but the rest of the globe should receive the same update pretty soon.

There’s no mention of the HTC U11 EYEs, but we still expect the device to be upgraded to Android Pie at some point in future, but probably not this year.

January 16, 2018: HTC U11 Android 8.0 update is now available in the UK. This was expected now as HTC only recently made an apology to its European users for the delayed rollout, also confirming that the update is planned for rollout in near future. Our friends from the UK have confirmed the update, which is seeding out as version 2.33.91.6, sized 1.29GB.
January 10, 2018: HTC U11 users across the EMEA region are now also receiving the Android Oreo update. The Android 8.0 build comes as software version 2.33.401.10 there, and is already available s an OTA.
November 28, 2017: The software version of the Oreo update for unlocked HTC U11 handsets in the US is 2.31.617.2, and it runs 1.28GB. The Android 8.0 OTA also packs in November 2017 security patch but of course, the show here is 8.0 OS.
November 27, 2017: HTC is now pushing the Oreo update for the U11 users across Europe, and it’s expected to hit the UA too today only. The software version for the European U11 Oreo build is 2.31.400.6, and we would bring you the version for the US, along with firmware links soon as and when they become available.
HTC has begun its first Oreo rollout, and it’s for the U11 users in Taiwan. Besides the bump to Android 8.0, the U11 users would also see their device get support for VoWiFi service on Chunghwa Telecom on Oreo.
HTC’s community manager announced the update at their Taiwan forums, that the U11 Oreo OTA would arrive as software version 2.31.709.1. HTC hasn’t revealed when they plan to release it in the US and other regions, but one would be right to think it’s not far now.
Unless you have been living under the rock, you probably know all about what Oreo 8.0 brings to the table. But here’s a refresher in very brief anyway: With Android 8.0 — which is .1 less that the current latest Android OS version, 8.1 — you get features like Picture-in-picture, Autofill, increased battery life because of minimum background activity, and then some other cool little features like Notification Dots, Notification channels, Android Instant Apps, better security measures, along with under the hood improvements that make the system more stable and smooth.

While U11 becomes first HTC devices to get Oreo update as an OTA, HTC already have the U11 Plus in the market that offers Oreo as pre-installed. We are eager to get our hands on U11 Oreo, but we have to wait until HTC begins rolling it in Europe and USA.
Meanwhile, Samsung could release third Oreo beta update for their Galaxy S8 soon, as they had to halt the second beta because of issues caused by the update, much to the fury of many users. Even though a bit late to the game, HTC has come up with stable update already, and if it’s not marred by bugs, then HTC deserves some appreciation for this. So far, among the non-Google OEMs, only Sony has released Oreo update for their Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact. It’s surprising to see LG lag behind on the update scene with Oreo, when they have been among the first for the past few years.
