Both Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are capable of taking great photos in poorly lit conditions. This is mostly thanks to the recent addition of a dedicated Night mode to the stock camera app, but it doesn’t mean those S9 and S9+ units in the U.S. yet to receive the feature can’t deliver great low light photography.

To help you get the best low light photos on the Galaxy S9 or S9+, here are a few tips:
1. As long as the surroundings aren’t as bright as outdoors, the Galaxy S9 defaults to using the wider f/1.5 aperture for better low light shots. This is great, but to make the shots even better, be sure to tap on the object you want to focus on in the viewfinder before capturing the photo. This helps the lens to quickly focus and lock on the item you want.
2. Swipe over to Pro Mode and you can actually switch between the two apertures manually. As noted above, stick to the f/1.5 aperture for the best low light shots.
3. Install the Google Camera APK. We all know how good Google’s Night Sight is, so why not borrow these capabilities by installing the APK on your Galaxy S9? The guide is here.
