2020 has been an absolutely horrific year — for innumerable reasons. Most of us have struggled to get work done, stay in shape, and attain the peace of mind we crave. Digital hangouts and media consumption have become our respite in these trying times, and the parent companies have been doing their best to pitch in and be our saving grace.

Spotify, which happens to be the leader in music streaming, knows how much the industry has evolved over the years; how much people are hooked to podcasts these days. So, capitalizing on the current home-bound situation, Spotify has rolled out a little feature that’d allow you to save individual podcast episodes directly to your Spotify library.

So, without further ado, let’s get to it.

What’s new in this update?

Spotify recently acquired Gimlet Media and Ringer — two absolute goliaths in the podcast world, which pretty much showed how serious they were about emerging as the podcast king. Now, with this update, Spotify’s making podcasts as accessible as possible.

This new update will add a button to podcast episodes, which would allow you to save those episodes to your Spotify library. The update went live on November 16th and should roll out to all regions over the next couple of weeks.

How to add individual episodes to your library?

Before getting into the methodology, let’s take a look at what’s changing. First and foremost, Spotify has created a new ‘Your episodes’ section in the app, which will host all the episodes you save. Before the update, Spotify used to have an ‘Episodes’ tab, which prompted you whenever a new episode — only from a show you subscribed to — came out. This new ‘Your episodes’ tab, on the other hand, will serve as the primary storage container for all the episodes you wish to add.

To add a podcast to the ‘Your episodes’ section in your library, all you have to do is go to an episode and tap on the ‘+’ button.

Once you do, the episode will be promptly added to the ‘Your episodes’ tab.

Do you need to subscribe to a channel to save its episodes?

The little update in question has also introduced the ability to add podcasts without subscribing to the main show. So, if you’re looking to add a solitary episode from a show you’re not too crazy about, this new feature addition is bound to serve you well.
