So you’re new to Clubhouse and have just joined an interesting room. More often than not you will realize that these rooms are quite closely moderated and speakers are pre-assigned before the room is hosted. So, how can you talk in such rooms? Well, Clubhouse has a nifty feature called ‘raise hand’ which notifies the moderator that you wish to speak.

The moderator can then approve this request which will make you a speaker for the current room. Let’s take a look at how you can raise your hand in Clubhouse.

How to raise hand on Clubhouse

Join a Clubhouse room as you normally would and then tap on the ‘hand’ icon at the bottom of your screen.

This will now automatically send a request to the moderator and you will be notified of the same at the top of your screen.

Once your request is approved, you will be elevated to the speaker status and you will get a notification for the same that looks like this (below). You can then tap on ‘Join as speaker’ to actively take part in the current conversation. Your request is not automatically approved to maintain your privacy.

And that’s it! You should now have raised your hand in the concerned Clubhouse room.

What do to after raising hand? When will my request be approved?

This always depends on the moderator and the content of your current room. If the moderator/room is actively looking for interesting speakers then you might get a shot.

Additionally, your request could also be approved during the Q & A or feedback session of the room after the current talks come to an end. You should take a look at the room guidelines to see when, and if, your ‘raise hand’ request will be approved.

How to lower your hand on Clubhouse

Mistakes happen and if you raised your hand by mistake, then you can easily lower it in Clubhouse.

Once you raise your hand, the icon at the bottom of your screen will turn colored indicating that you have raised your hand. Simply tap on the icon again to lower your hand.

The icon should turn back to its original greyscale form now indicating that your hand has now been lowered.

The moderator will now be unable to approve your request of becoming a speaker.

Raise hand missing in Clubhouse?

If you do not see the raise hand icon then chances are that you are already the speaker or moderator for the current room. Raise hand is a functionality available only to members that have the audience status.

All other members with elevated privileges will have their raise hand icon replaced by a mic icon which can be used to mute and unmute yourself during conversations in Clubhouse.

If you do not see the raise hand option then you already have the privilege to be a part of the ongoing conversation. Simply unmute yourself to get started.

We hope this guide helped you easily raise your hand in a Clubhouse room. If you face any issues or have any more questions, feel free to drop them in the comments section below.
