Colors 5, 6, 8, and 9 have set unlock conditions in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Color 7 has no discovered unlock method yet.
The later costume colors in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls come from Story, Casual matches, character challenges, and Ultimate Edition ownership. The route is simple once you separate account-wide unlocks from character-specific work.
Colors 5-9 requirements

Colors 1-4 are available by default, so the unlock grind starts at Color 5. The launch build has nine costume colors per character.
Color 5 comes from Story Episodes
Color 5 is tied to Story Mode through Story Episodes. The game currently has five Episodes, and each Episode maps to one team rather than only one fighter.
Because of that team setup, an Episode clear applies to the four characters on that team. Finishing the full Story Episode set opens Color 5 across all 20 launch characters.
Color 6 uses Casual matches
Color 6 is the 10-match online unlock, with Casual as the mode to use. Finish 10 Casual matches and skip the other online playlists for this color.

Wins are not required, so any result counts once the match is played.
The unlock is account-wide, which means those 10 Casual matches unlock Color 6 for every character at the same time.
Color 7 is still undiscovered
Color 7 does not have a discovered unlock method right now. There is no shortcut, playlist target, or challenge route to grind for it yet.
Leave that slot as the one missing palette in the set and spend your time on the known routes for the surrounding colors.
Color 8 comes from Action Check and Combo Challenge
Color 8 is tied to the character trials/challenges menu. For the specific character you want, complete both Action Check and Combo Challenge.
This one is per character. Finishing Action Check and Combo Challenge for one fighter does not open Color 8 for the rest of the roster.
Do Color 8 on your main fighters first; unlike the Story Episode and Casual-match colors, it asks for character-specific trial clears.
Color 9 is tied to the Ultimate Edition
Color 9 is tied to the Ultimate Edition. It is an edition benefit, not a reward you unlock through Story Episodes, Casual matches, or trials.
There is no in-game farm for it in the launch setup. If you are comparing editions, check the current price on your own store because pricing can vary by region and platform.
Color cleanup mistakes to avoid
The easiest mistake is repeating account-wide work. Color 6 does not need to be earned separately for every fighter, while Color 8 does, so keep those two requirements in different buckets.
Do not farm in-game modes for Color 9, and do not add the third trial mode to your Color 8 route. Also, ignore the July 24-27 open beta color limit when planning unlocks: the August 6 launch build uses the full nine-color setup per character.
