Late last year, Samsung revealed a software update roadmap that put the Galaxy Tab Active 2’s Android Pie release date at October 2019. This roadmap was later revised, but the Tab Active 2 was left out this time around, suggesting that the initial date remained unchanged.
With that in mind, we didn’t expect to hear anything Pie-related with respect to the Galaxy Tab Active 2 anytime soon. How wrong we were! Contrary to our expectations, it appears that Samsung is already getting ready to release One UI to the rugged tablet way ahead of schedule.
As I write this, the Wi-Fi Alliance has cleared both the LTE and Wi-Fi only variants of the Tab Active 2 with Pie on board, implying that Samsung has received the go-ahead to roll out the OS.
The variants in question have model numbers SM-T390, SM-T395, SM-T395N, and SM-T395C. Unfortunately, model SM-T397U, the LTE variant sold in the U.S., is missing from the list, but this doesn’t mean it won’t receive Pie when the time comes.
Of course, the listing on the WFA doesn’t mean the OS is now rolling out, but it means the wait is almost over. If anything, Pie should be released in the coming weeks, probably before the end of June 2019.
