You can learn climbing in Gothic 1 Remake by finding Theron at the Swamp Camp and paying him 6 pieces of Northern Dark plus 5 LP to teach you the skill.

How to Learn Climbing
Step 1: Travel to the Swamp Camp
Head to the Swamp Camp area in the game world. This camp is located near the main temple in the swamp region. You’ll need to have progressed enough in the game to access this area.

Step 2: Find Theron at the Beach
Once you’re at the Swamp Camp, stand in front of the main temple and look toward the beach.

Head right along the beach until you find a cliff area. Theron is sitting under the cliff next to a hut.

He’s the climbing trainer you need to find.
Step 3: Gather 6 Northern Dark (Dark Whisper)
Before Theron will teach you, you must provide him with 6 pieces of Northern Dark (also referred to as “dark whisper” by players). You can:
-
Purchase these at the Old Camp from Dexter
-
Fortuno at Swamp Camp sells them also (he sells vegetables, might have ingredients).

-
Look for vendors at the entrance of the Old Mine.
Step 4: Talk to Theron and Pay 5 LP
Once you have the 6 Northern Dark, talk to Theron and give him the ingredients.

After receiving them, he will agree to teach you climbing for 5 Learning Points (LP). Accept the training to unlock the wall climbing skill.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid & Tips for Completion
-
Don’t skip gathering Northern Dark first: Theron won’t teach you without the 6 pieces. If you talk to him empty-handed, you’ll need to return after collecting them.
-
Make sure you have enough LP: You need 5 Learning Points available. If you’re short, focus on completing quests or defeating enemies to earn more LP before returning.
-
Check multiple vendors: If Dexter at Old Camp doesn’t have Northern Dark, try Fortuno at Swamp Camp or vendors at the Old Mine entrance.
-
Look for the right visual cue: Theron is sitting, not standing. He’s under a cliff next to a hut on the beach—this makes him easier to spot.
-
Daily source available: Fortuno may provide daily dark whisper, making him a reliable long-term source if you need more later.
Mastering climbing opens up vertical exploration in the Valley of the Mines, letting you reach hidden areas, escape enemies, and access rare loot. Once you’ve got Theron’s training, focus on practicing on climbable surfaces—you’ll quickly learn to spot which rock faces you can scale.
