What to know
- Google's NotebookLM now supports Audio Overviews in more than 50 languages, from Afrikaans to Hindi to Turkish.
- The Gemini 2.5 Pro-powered feature maintains the same casual, conversational style regardless of language chosen.
- Users can switch languages on the fly, generate summaries for others in their native tongue, or create multilingual study guides.
Google has significantly expanded the capabilities of its NotebookLM tool by making its popular Audio Overviews feature available in more than 50 languages. This update transforms how people can interact with and share information across language barriers.
The Audio Overview feature, which turns your uploaded documents, videos, books, and other information into an audio show hosted by AI voices, now works in dozens of languages. When creating an Audio Overview, you can select an Output Language in the settings before generating the audio.
This multilingual support is powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, which maintains the same casual, conversational style regardless of which language you choose. The feature allows you to switch languages whenever needed, create summaries for friends or students in their native languages, or prepare multilingual study materials without hiring translators.
Google announced NotebookLM in December 2023, and it quickly gained popularity for its ability to create podcast-like conversations between two AI hosts. The service was made broadly available in October 2024 and has received several updates since then.
The language expansion follows Google's earlier move to make NotebookLM available in more than 200 countries. This latest update addresses a significant barrier to technology adoption by allowing users to engage with AI tools in their preferred language.
For example, teachers can now share resources in various languages with their students, who can then generate Audio Overviews of key insights in whatever language they prefer. This capability makes information more accessible to everyone by breaking down language barriers.
You can try the multilingual Audio Overviews feature by visiting the NotebookLM website.
