What to know
- Google Tasks is developing a control for opening a chat-linked task in its originating Google Chat conversation.
- Shared Chat tasks already appear in Google Tasks, but the new code points to a direct route back to Chat.
- We found the dormant strings in Google Tasks v2026.10.19.1001958523.0-release but could not surface the controls in the app.
Google already documents the broader connection between Tasks and Chat: shared tasks created in a Chat space can appear in Google Tasks and remain linked with that space. The latest Google Tasks code points to a useful addition within that existing setup.
Now, a teardown of Google Tasks v2026.10.19.1001958523.0-release reveals controls for editing a task’s details and viewing a linked task in Chat. This could save you from manually finding the conversation where a shared task originated.
Google Tasks is adding a “View in chat” control
The clearest new reference is an accessibility label reading “View in chat.” Its identifier ties the action directly to a user-interface control, pointing to a way to move from a chat-linked task in Google Tasks back to Google Chat.
This builds on a capability that is already public. Google’s support documentation explains that shared tasks can be created in Chat and managed through Google Tasks. What is new here is the in-Tasks control for navigating back to the linked Chat conversation.
The new strings, seen below, point to the navigation action as well as related controls for editing details and showing additional items:
The accompanying “Edit details” string points to a control for changing the task’s information, while “Show all” suggests the interface may be able to expand a collection of related items rather than displaying everything at once.
The strings do not specify exactly which items the “Show all” button covers, so the strongest finding remains the explicitly named route back to Chat. Together, however, the additions point to Google refining how people inspect and manage tasks connected to conversations.
We found these strings while diffing Google Tasks v2026.10.19.1001958523.0-release against the previous build. We could not surface the controls in the app. The chat-navigation feature is not available to users yet, and we’ll watch future builds for its rollout.
