Hot on the heels of the official Android 4.2 announcement, Google has updated Google Search for Android 4.1, bringing improved performance as well as a lot of improvements and new features to Google Now.

First off, Google Now is now capable of providing information based on data from your Gmail account, including flights, hotels, restaurants, event booking info when a confirmation email for either of them is received in your email. Also new are cards based on news updates, which show up when a “story you are interested in has been updated”, while cards for nearby attractions, movies openings in theaters, concerts, etc have been added as well.

The update also brings one crucial functionality that was missing all this time: the ability to launch apps with voice actions. All in all, this is quite a major update to Google Now, and you can get it from the Play Store if your device is running Android 4.1.
