What to know

  • Google is rolling out Pixel Magnifier 2.0 with three new features.
  • New additions include text search, lens selection, and PiP mode.
  • The update aims to improve accessibility for Pixel device users.

As announced in its Made by Google event last Wednesday, Google is rolling out a significant update to Pixel Magnifier – a Pixel-exclusive app, introducing version 2.0 with three new capabilities. This update aims to make Pixel devices more accessible and user-friendly for everyone, and not only those with visual impairments.

The Pixel Magnifier 2.0 update brings three key additions:

  1. Text Search: Users can now search for specific text within the magnified view. This feature helps in quickly locating important information on the screen.
  2. Lens Selection: The new version allows users to choose different lenses for various purposes. This includes options for color filters and contrast enhancement.
  3. Picture-in-Picture (PiP) Mode: This mode enables users to see a magnified view in a separate window while using other apps.

The Pixel Magnifier can be accessed via its app as well as from a Quick Settings tile.

These new features are designed to enhance the overall accessibility of Pixel devices. Google plans to roll out Pixel Magnifier 2.0 to Pixel 5 and newer. Unfortunately, no love is shown to the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
