Google Pixel and Nexus devices get July security update

A new update is rolling out for Google Pixel and Nexus devices which will install the latest i.e. July security patch on the devices.

The Google devices that will be receiving the July security patch are Pixel XL, Pixel, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, Nexus 6, and Nexus 9.

Only the users who are on Android 7.1.2 Nougat will receive the update. If you are running the Android O developer preview, you won’t receive the OTA update unless you downgrade.

As per Google, July security patch resolves 43 issues in the security patch dated 2017-07-01 and 96 in the 2017-07-05 one. Unlike June update that fixed several big issues in the Pixel and Pixel XL, July update primarily focuses on the security fixes.

As is the case with any security patch, the update takes care of various security vulnerabilities. You can also expect minor performance improvements from the update.

It is advisable to connect to a good Wi-Fi network before downloading the update and keep your handset charged as high as 50 percent.

If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for it manually via the device settings. Go to Settings – About – Software updates.
