Google Pixel 3 XL to come with a single-lens camera

It’s 2018 and even some of the most rigid smartphone companies have caved in to the dual-lens camera craze, but a new rumor claims that Google’s top-prized smartphone of this year, the Google Pixel 3 XL, which is expected to hit the market towards the very end of the year, will still come with a single-lens camera on the back.

In the newly leaked set of images, the alleged Google Pixel 3 XL, which is essentially a smartphone casing, will have a similar camera and fingerprint scanner arrangement as the current model, but it is the front that will undergo a serious overhaul.

Like nearly every other 2018 flagship smartphone, there’s a notch on the front of the Pixel 3 XL, however, there’s literally no bezel on the left and right-hand sides of the screen. There’s, however, a significant chin on the lower end that houses a front-firing speaker and despite the top bezel being significantly reduced to a notch, you still get another front-firing speaker that also doubles as the earpiece.

The same notch also houses what look like two camera lenses, but we are hopeful that this is some form of Google’s version of 3D Face ID. With that said, this is just another of the many leaks and rumors that will be showing up as part of the build-up to the launch of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL somewhere in Q4 2018, so take it with a grain of salt.

What we think

It’s not surprising that Google may be opting against a dual-lens camera system on the Pixel 3 XL. Even with a single-lens setup, the Google Pixel 2 is still unmatched when compared to a flurry of other high-end devices that come with dual-lens cameras. Google knows its software and if it’s going with a single-lens shooter, we are likely to see every other stuff that is usually reserved for the second lens implemented as part of the software running on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
