What to know

  • Google Photos is adding controls to resume auto-add after an album’s photo limit increases.
  • A new prompt explains the higher limit and offers options to resume auto-add or review its settings.
  • Google Photos 7.99.0.1007655401 also includes an explicit error message for failed resume requests.

Google Photos already pauses automatic additions when an album reaches its photo limit. It also has existing messages for pauses caused by an album owner disabling collaboration. Now, Google is preparing a clearer route back into auto-add when the applicable limit is raised.

We found the updated flow while examining Google Photos 7.99.0.1007655401. The broader Live Albums auto-add capability and its previously doubled 20,000-image limit are already public; what is new here is the interface for restarting albums that stopped at an earlier limit.

About APK teardowns — An APK teardown works by reading the not-yet-shipped code inside a beta build, which lets us preview features a developer is working on before they’re announced. But work-in-progress code can change, stay hidden behind a server-side flag, or be scrapped before it ever reaches your phone.

A new prompt lets you restart auto-add

The existing version of this feature tells you when auto-add has paused because an album reached its photo limit. The latest additions cover what happens next if Google raises that limit: a prompt asks whether you want to resume auto-add and explains that the album stopped at the previous limit.

The interface can insert the increased limit into the explanation through the %1$s placeholder. From there, you can either restart automatic additions immediately or open the album’s settings for a review first. A separate bottom-sheet control also carries the same “Resume auto-add” action.

These are the strings defining that return path:

photos_album_ui_albumsuggestion_auto_add_paused_resumable_title = "Resume auto-add?"
photos_album_ui_albumsuggestion_auto_add_paused_resumable_subtitle = "This album reached the previous photo limit, which has now been increased to %1$s."
photos_album_ui_albumsuggestion_auto_add_paused_resume_button = "Resume auto-add"
photos_album_ui_albumsuggestion_auto_add_paused_review_settings_button = "Review settings"
photos_envelope_autoadd_bottomsheet_resume_auto_add_button = "Resume auto-add"

Google Photos also accounts for resume errors

The flow includes a dedicated failure state rather than leaving a rejected resume request without an explanation. The wording is brief, but it shows that Google Photos can distinguish trouble restarting auto-add from the original limit-related pause.

The new error copy reads:

photos_envelope_settings_autoadd_resume_error = "Trouble resuming auto-add"

This is an update to an auto-add feature that has appeared in the app’s code since June 18, 2026, not a newly introduced capability. The meaningful change is that an album paused at an older ceiling can now present a direct recovery path once that ceiling moves, saving you from having to reconstruct its automatic-add setup.
