What to know
- Google Lens is preparing a zero-state suggestion labeled “Summarize this.”
- The shortcut could make starting a Lens summary quicker by placing the action on its opening screen.
- We found the string in code from the unreleased Google App v17.65.17.sa.arm64.
Google Lens already supports broader summarization capabilities, but Google appears to be working on a more direct way to start one. A new shortcut could put the action on the Lens starting screen, removing the need to find it deeper in the experience.
Now, a teardown of Google App v17.65.17.sa.arm64 reveals the exact zero-state label Google is preparing: “Summarize this.” This specific shortcut is the new finding in the build.
Google Lens gets a direct summarization suggestion
We diffed Google App v17.65.17.sa.arm64 against the previous build and found a new Lens resource tied specifically to the zero-state experience. Its value is a short, direct command: “Summarize this.”
The zero state is the starting view you encounter before beginning a Lens task. Placing a summarization suggestion there would give you a visible entry point for asking Lens to condense what you are looking at, instead of leaving that action to a later stage of the flow.
The new string, seen below, points to the shortcut and provides its exact user-facing label:
The resource name is narrowly scoped: it identifies Lens, the zero-state interface, and a summarization suggestion. That makes the intended placement clearer than a generic summarization string would. The wording also reads as an action rather than a description, suggesting it is meant to be presented as something you can select from the Lens starting screen.
The shortcut is the new part
Summarization itself is already a public capability. What is new here is the dedicated Google Lens zero-state shortcut and its exact “Summarize this” label. The code points to a quicker starting point for the existing broader idea, not an entirely new category of feature.
The shortcut is not available to users yet. We’ll watch future Google App builds for signs that Google is moving it toward rollout.
