Google has introduced Veo 2, its advanced AI video generation model, to the Gemini app. If you subscribe to Gemini Advanced, you can now create short, high-quality videos by simply describing the scene you want to see. The Veo 2 model interprets your text prompts and generates eight-second video clips at 720p resolution, delivered as MP4 files in a 16:9 landscape format. This feature is available on both web and mobile versions of the Gemini app, making it accessible wherever you use Gemini.
To generate a video, you select Veo 2 from the model dropdown menu in Gemini. You then describe your desired scene in as much detail as you wish. The more specific your prompt, the more control you have over the final video. After a short processing time, Gemini delivers your video, which you can download or share directly to platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Each video is marked with SynthID, a digital watermark embedded in every frame, to indicate that it was created using AI.
There are some limitations to keep in mind. Only Gemini Advanced subscribers, who pay $19.99 per month, can access this feature. There is a monthly cap on how many videos you can generate, and Google will notify you as you approach your limit. The feature is rolling out globally in all languages supported by Gemini, and it is not currently available to Google Workspace business or educational accounts.
In addition to the Gemini app, Veo 2 is also being integrated into Whisk, an experimental tool in Google Labs. Whisk allows you to use images as prompts and now includes "Whisk Animate," which can turn generated images into eight-second videos using Veo 2. This expansion aims to give users more creative flexibility and new ways to visualize their ideas.
Google has implemented several safety measures for Veo 2, including extensive testing to prevent the generation of harmful or policy-violating content. The company continues to refine the technology and gather user feedback to improve the experience. As AI-generated video tools become more advanced, Google’s move with Veo 2 in Gemini marks a significant step in making creative video production more accessible to a wider audience.
