What to know

  • Google Gemini’s web app now features a redesigned side panel with infinite scrolling for chat history.
  • The update makes it easier to browse past conversations without repeated clicks.
  • Other changes include a simplified menu and improved access to settings and features.
  • The redesign is rolling out widely and is also available on mobile web.

Google has updated the Gemini web app with a new side panel design. The most notable change is the addition of infinite scrolling for your chat history. Now, when you want to look back at previous conversations, you can simply keep scrolling down the list, instead of clicking through multiple pages or buttons to see older chats. This makes it much easier to find and revisit past discussions.

The side panel also features a new look for the “New chat” button, which is now flat and uses a more descriptive icon. Right below, you will see the "Gems" section, showing your two most recent Gems and a link to the Explore page. The "Recent" section lists your five latest chats and pins. If you need to see more, tapping "Show more" lets you scroll through your entire chat history without interruption.

Google has also consolidated various settings and options into a single "Settings & more" menu. This menu is simpler than before and includes items like Activity, Saved info, Apps, Your public links, Dark theme, Manage subscription, Send feedback, Help, and your current location. The updated side panel is designed to be easier to use, especially when minimized, and these changes are also available on the mobile web version of Gemini.

This redesign aims to make managing your conversations and accessing key features more straightforward. The rollout has been happening over the past few days and is now available to more users. These improvements are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to make Gemini a more personal and powerful assistant for everyday tasks.
