Google Camera 4.1 update doesn’t support Marshmallow, Lollipop and other previous Android versions

Google released the Final developer preview builds of Android 7.0 Nougat yesterday, and with that some new features that are to be introduced with the freshest update for Android.

The Google Camera app specifically received a major update to version 4.1 with a long list of new features. Unfortunately though, the newer version is only supported on Android Nougat, leaving out even the most recent of major Android updates — Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Below are the new features of Nougat exclusive Google Camera 4.1 update (courtesy APK Mirror):

  • New flattened settings layout.
  • New zoom animation when tapping a photo to view it from the view finder.
  • New look for Timer/HDR/Flash toggles.
  • New HDR “processing” animation.
  • Volume key action can now be specified:
    • Shutter (default)
    • Zoom
    • Volume
  • You can now swipe left to right to pull out the menu.
  • Nav buttons dim slightly when you open the app.

If you happen to own a Nougat supported Nexus device, you can test out the new features of Google Camera 4.1 update by installing the final Android N developer preview 5.
