There was a rumor that Google will announce integration of Google Assistant with home products such as refrigerators, washing machines, air purifiers etc. And guess what? The rumor is true. As they say, there is no smoke without the fire. Google, at its developer’s conference I/O 2017 authenticated the same.

And as soon as they confirmed it, GE appliances, a Haier company was the first one to officially announce the integration with Google Assistant. Later, even LG jumped on the bandwagon and announced compatibility with the Google Assistant.

This doesn’t mean that you can directly interact with the devices using voice commands. You need Google Assistant for that, either on your Google Home, or your smartphone, to control the appliances. Google Assistant acts as a medium, thus eliminating the need to launch individual apps for the products.

While GE products will integrate with Google Assistant starting today itself (that’s because they were already working on it with Google), LG states that they will be ready to launch the support for Google Assistant by the end of May. Moreover, if you live in country other than US, you will have to wait a bit more as the Google Assistant support is coming first to the products in US. And, FYI, GE is ahead of other brands in AI integration as well, since it already supports Amazon’s Alexa on all of its devices.
