What to know
- Google is developing a richer Gemini email-draft interface with attachment handling.
- The updated interface also uses renamed actions for copying text and opening the result as a draft.
- We found these dormant strings in code from the unreleased Google App v17.70.10.sa.arm64, but could not surface the interface in the app.
Gemini’s broader ability to help draft emails is already public. What is new here is a set of changes inside the Google App’s own email-draft interface, including attachment support, revised menu labels, and updated wording for a failed rewrite.
Now, a teardown of Google App v17.70.10.sa.arm64 shows that Google is continuing to develop that experience. We diffed the build against its predecessor and found new strings describing the additions.
Gemini email drafts are gaining attachment handling
The clearest addition is support for attachments within Gemini’s email-draft flow. Google App v17.70.10.sa.arm64 introduces both an “Attachments” label and a default “Attachment” file name, establishing dedicated text for files associated with a generated email draft.
The new strings, seen below, point to the attachment portion of the interface:
The code does not explain which file types the interface will accept or how attachments will be added, so those details remain unknown. It does, however, directly show that attachment handling is being incorporated into this existing draft experience.
Copying and opening drafts get clearer labels
The same build renames two actions in the email-draft menu. One is now labelled “Copy text,” while another reads “Open as draft.” Together, the labels describe two distinct ways to continue with Gemini’s output: copy the generated wording or move it into an email draft.
Code in Google App v17.70.10.sa.arm64 references the following menu items:
These changes make the intended result of each action explicit. They also keep the new work focused on the Google App’s draft interface rather than the already-public, broader concept of using Gemini to compose email.
Failed rewrites receive revised wording
Google is also revising the message shown when Gemini refuses or cannot complete an edit. The updated wording tells the user that the edit could not be completed and suggests trying a different prompt:
This string supports rewriting as another part of the email-draft workflow, alongside attachment handling, copying generated text, and opening the result as a draft.
The updated interface is not available to users yet. We’ll watch future Google App builds for signs of its rollout.
