What to know
- Gemini is building scheduled actions that can depend on your location and message you only when specified conditions are met.
- The supporting flows request background location and notification access so schedules can run and alert you when needed.
- We found the dormant code in the unreleased Google app v17.69.19.sa.arm64, but could not surface the feature in the app yet.
Scheduled actions could make Gemini more useful without requiring you to start every interaction yourself. The Google app’s code now describes schedules that rely on your location, apply conditions to alerts, and continue working in the background.
We found these additions while diffing Google app v17.69.19.sa.arm64 against the previous build. The new strings outline the permissions and notification flows that will support the feature.
Schedules can use conditions to decide when to message you
Gemini’s scheduled actions are gaining a conditional layer. A new “Only message me if” header points to schedules that do more than run at a predetermined time: they can check a condition before sending an alert.
The wording suggests you will be able to narrow when Gemini should contact you, reducing unnecessary notifications when the condition attached to a schedule has not been met.
Location schedules are designed to run in the background
The clearest additions concern location-dependent schedules. Google app v17.69.19.sa.arm64 includes prompts telling you to grant Gemini “Allow all the time” location access so these schedules can continue running in the background.
Separate alerts cover two situations: location services are turned off, or Gemini lacks the required location permission. In either case, tapping the notification will take you toward the relevant Settings screen.
Gemini will also request notification access for schedules
Another permission flow asks you to let Gemini read, reply to, and control notifications. The schedule-specific strings direct you to Settings through a notification, giving Gemini the access needed for scheduled actions that depend on notification activity.
This fits alongside the conditional messaging control: a schedule can monitor the information it has permission to access and contact you when its chosen requirements are satisfied.
These location-aware and conditional scheduling capabilities are not available to users yet. We’ll watch future Google app builds for signs of their rollout.
