The next big thing from Samsung, the Galaxy S9, is still a few months away. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ would probably be announced in February 2018, just before the Mobile World Congress.

We’ve heard plenty of rumors, reports, and seen several leaks of the Galaxy S9. Although at the moment nothing is confirmed, it’s still good to have an idea of what we can expect. One of the features that was expected on the Galaxy S9, was the in-display fingerprint sensor.

It was rumored that Samsung would move the fingerprint sensor to the front of the display. However, the sensor would be placed beneath the display, so as to have the Infinity display with no bezels. This would have been awesome, but it seems like it will likely not happen.

According to a new report out of Korea, Samsung has scrapped the plans for an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy S9 is already in production and due to technical difficulties with placing the sensor behind the display, we will not be seeing it anytime soon. The report states that Samsung would most likely get the tech ready for inclusion in the Galaxy Note 9.

The current Galaxy S8/S8+ and the Note 8 all feature the fingerprint sensor at the back of the device, next to the camera module. A lot of users have found this placement to be odd and not very ergonomic. That could change with the S9, as Samsung might move the sensor to a more traditional position below the camera.
