The air is rife with Galaxy S8 rumors and today’s leak sort of make things confirmed a bit, given the impressive reputation of the source thanks to previous successful leaks. Although there is nothing exactly new, with this rumor though, some things look to be going to stay.
First up, the physical home button will soon be saying its final goodbyes. Samsung plans to make up for the removal of the home button with the implementation of a pressure sensitive display or Force touch, a first for Samsung, and even though not late, it’s been in the market for quite some time now.
There won’t be any capacitive buttons either, as the trio of Back, Home and Recents key will go on-screen like we see on Nexus devices for the last 4-5 years. That also enables some software possibilities for Samsung, as the on-screen buttons could use the Force touch to bring you new options, and we believe Samsung will use 3D touch or Force touch display because the rumors has this one covered too.
A dual camera setup might also make its way to the Galaxy S8. You know, the Galaxy S7 already is an excellent shooter, so it’s definitely exciting to see what’s Samsung is cooking with two cameras side by side. Dual cameras in smartphones are kind-of norm now a days, among flagships and some not-so-flagship sets too, as HTC, Huawei, Apple and the likes are adopting the technology.
The rumor also includes that the Galaxy S8 would be bundled with Samsung’s latest and greatest indigenous processor manufactured on the 10nm process. This has to be Exynos 8895 for the Asian and European markets, while Snapdragon 830 chipset for the US. This will surely lead to considerable increase in performance.
Previous rumours have stated that the flagship will drop all bezels and sport a complete borderless display. Being the dream of many concept phone creators, this might actually make it to reality, seeing Xiaomi do it with the Mi Mix. The S8 is also rumoured to feature Hi Fi Quad DAC support. That’s just fancy lingo for studio quality audio on a smartphone. 4K displays may finally make it to Samsung after Sony bragged with its Xperia Z5 Premium.
In other news, it seems like Samsung will push its own AI, Bixby, to the Galaxy S8. This is pretty cool, since we’ve been waiting eagerly for it ever since Samsung acquired Viv labs. But how will it fare against the might of the three AI giants in the tech world today. For Brixby to gain traction, it will have to be on par with Google Assistant, Microsoft’s Cortana and Apple’s Siri. Here’s a concept video of the Galaxy S8 to satisfy all this suspense.
The phone will ship with Android Nougat out of the box. And a launch date of February 26 is expected.
