Galaxy S10 5G gets highest score in DxOMark tests, matches that of P30 Pro

Galaxy S10 5G DXOMark test

Ever since its launch late last month, the Huawei P30 Pro has been all the rage not just for photography fans, but the smartphone universe altogether.

The P30 Pro has been hailed as the best in low-light photography thanks to its impressive quad-lens setup on the back, earning it an overall score of 112 on DxOMark, the highest ever for any smartphone to date.

Barely before proud P30 Pro owners enjoy this feat, Huawei’s biggest rival in the smartphone industry, Samsung, has delivered the Chinese vendor a major blow, but much to the delight of Sammy fans. Apparently, it’s not just the P30 Pro that can hit scales of 112 in DxOMark tests, but the Galaxy S10 5G can too.

The device has just gone through its paces at the hands of folks at DxOMark, who tested a myriad of photography features such as Exposure and Contrast, Autofocus, Color, Noise, Flash, Texture, Artifacts, as well as Zoom and Bokeh performance in low-light, indoor, and bright light conditions.

What this means is that the Galaxy S10 5G matches the P30 Pro in overall photography, but this is only true for the main camera where both devices have four camera lenses, among them a 3D ToF sensor.

As for the selfies, the Galaxy S10 5G completely crashes the P30 Pro with a score of 97, the highest ever any device has scored in DxOMark tests. This is only one better than the Galaxy S10+, which, interestingly, has the same selfie camera as the 5G model.

It seems having more camera lenses is playing a crucial part here. Looking at DxOMark scores, the top 5 smartphones have at least three camera lenses on the back, with the two leaders getting a fourth 3D ToF lens. The story isn’t so different in the selfie department, with the single-lens P30 Pro trailing the dual-lens S10+ and S10 5G with a score of 89.

Unfortunately for Samsung, not everyone listens to DxOMark anymore, meaning people will still buy what they think is good regardless of what they say.
