U.S. carriers started rolling out Android 9 Pie updates to the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 a few days ago. We’ve also seen users of the Huawei P10 report cases of Android Pie rolling out with EMUI 9.0, but for those in Canada, these are just stories they get to read about.
This, however, won’t carry on for long for those using any of the Galaxy S8, S8+, or Note 8 on Canada’s Fido or Rogers. The carriers have recently updated their software release schedules to indicate that the trio will begin their Pie upgrade on the first day of April 2019.
Sure, we all know what this day also brings, but no, this isn’t an April fool’s joke, at least we hope so. If anything, the fact that another Canadian carrier, Telus, had also promised to begin rolling out Pie to the Note 8 and S8 on the same day should add more weight.
It’s been several weeks since these devices received their official Pie updates in markets outside North America, which is a testament to how carriers affect timely software updates. The good thing is that the wait is finally over.
As for Huawei P10 and P10+, the update is scheduled as “coming soon” with no specific date, so we’ll just have to wait. As already pointed out, the story is also the same for those using the S8, S8+, Note 8, P10 or P10+ on Rogers, as seen below.
Just so you know, Android Pie is the second and last major OS upgrade for all of these devices. All of them were released in 2017 preinstalled with Android Nougat.
