Android Pie stable update for Galaxy Note 8 begins rolling out

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 One UI update

After four beta releases, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is now receiving a stable version of Android 9 Pie that brings the long-awaited One UI to the aging handset.

The Galaxy Note 8 has been trialing the Pie update since mid-January and today, users of the handset on the global variant with model number SM-N950F are reporting to have started seeing OTA updates with Pie on board.

Besides Pie and One UI, the update also installs a new Android security patch for the month of February 2019, the latest version available. Being a major OS upgrade, be sure to get a stable Wi-Fi connection because it’s quite heavy, weighing in at close to 2GB.

OTA updates are usually staggered, meaning not all global Note 8 units will get the download notification today or even this week for that matter. In fact, don’t be surprised if your wait for Pie goes all the way to late next week, so be sure to be patient enough.

After model SM-N950F, we expect the same update to come to model SM-N950U, the U.S. variant of the Note 8, before the end of this month or in early March 2019, although the exact release date will be determined by your specific carrier.

The Pie update will then trickle down to the Galaxy S8, S8+, and S8 Active later on before the company turns attention to the Galaxy A and J series.
