The US Cellular Galaxy S4 is now finally getting its Lollipop dreams true as the carrier is now rolling out the Android 5.0.1 update for the device.
The update comes with build number R970TYUGOE2, and is already available via Kies and other Samsung firmware repositories. We aren’t sure of the OTA update status though, if you happen own the device, do let us know if you’re seeing the Android 5.0.1 OTA update rolling out for your device.
Like always, we’re going to warn you that updating to Lollipop might break Root on your US Cellular Galaxy S4. Though, this wouldn’t be much trouble getting root access back given Chainfire has long ago cracked the Android 5.0 root for Samsung devices, but US Cellular has only released update now and Chainfire doesn’t have the CF-Auto-Root ready yet for the R970 Lollipop update. So you might want to wait before updating to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop if you so dearly care about root access.
Also, the Android 5.0.1 update for your USC Galaxy S4 will upgrade the bootloader on the device, meaning you want be able to downgrade back to KitKat if need be. There maybe a workaround for this, and we’re pretty sure the community members will find something, but if you’re going to install this R970TYUGOE2 build straight and plain to your Galaxy S4 then chances would be pretty slim of that happening. We’d recommend you to wait for a workaround first for the downgrade option if you care about it.
All that said, you can grab the full firmware (flashable via Odin) from the download link below. And for those who need help with installing the firmware using Odin, follow the installation guide linked below.
