Initially, Huawei announced that the Ascend Mate 2 will not be receiving the Android KitKat update. Following this, the firm announced that the device will skip the Android KitKat build and jump to the Lollipop update directly.

Earlier this month, the Chinese firm was looking for some good beta testers on their forums to test the early builds of the Android Lollipop update on their devices.  Now, the firm is letting anyone owning the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 with the model number MT2-L03 to update their device to the Android 5.1 Lollipop wrapped with EMUI 3.1. The users will have to download the update manually and flash the same on their device.

Huawei has noted that the software version on the device should be V100R001C00B126 or V100R001C00B148 for the users to download the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

Huawei has named this “Android L Preview” and it is expected to arrive with bugs. If you have the specified Ascend Mate 2 model, you can opt in to download the preview update. If you feel your device is getting plagued with bugs, you can downgrade back to the Jelly Bean build.

To flash the Android 5.1 build on the Ascend Mate 2, you should have a micro SD card of 4 GB of more and the same should be formatted, if you want. Download the B309.zip file and extract the same. Copy the dload folder to the root directory of the micro SD card.

You will to make sure that your device is switched off and insert the micro SD card into the device. Now, press and hold the volume up and down keys at the same time, and then the power button. Once the device turns on, you have to release the power button.

Your device should boot and begin flashing. As soon as the progress bar stops, the phone will restart. There are chances to enter the Emergency Data dialog during the first boot. Select the Factory data reset and confirm by clicking the Yes button. Reboot your device once the reset is over.
