While the world accommodates and gets accustomed to working from home, new and improved features are being added to daily services used by consumers. The latest company to jump on this bandwagon is Facebook that has released a host of new features to all its social media platforms.
These features include the ability to video call multiple people, improved encryption, better live streams, and most of all Messenger Rooms. Let’s take a deeper look at Messenger Rooms.
What is Messenger Rooms?
Messenger Rooms are a new way to video call multiple people simultaneously on Facebook. You can have up to 50 members at a time in a single room and even let anyone else drop-in that would like to join in on the conversation. Additionally, there is no time limit on Messenger Rooms which means that you can keep the conversation going for as long as you want. This gives you the ability to host game nights, watch movies together, study together, and much more.
Once you have created a room, you can share it on Facebook via your news feed, messages, or groups. This will give your friends circle the ability to join in and leave whenever they like. Additionally, you also get the ability to lock your room and make it private. You can even kick out users that do not adhere to your room policies as well as report them to Facebook.
Do you need a Facebook account for Messenger Rooms?
No, you do not need a Facebook account in order to join a Messenger Room. You can simply access it using the invite link or by heading over to the news feed of the publisher. After you click join, you will be asked to enter your name. This will help the members and publisher of the room to identify you as well as make it easier for people to address you in the room.
Keep in mind that the administrator can kick you out of the room if you are not invited or if you are not supposed to be there. Additionally, not complying with the room’s content policies will also get you kicked out of the room.
What do you need for Messenger Rooms?
You simply need a desktop computer or mobile device and an account on either Facebook, Whatsapp or Instagram to access a messenger room. You can join a messenger room even if you are not enrolled on any of these social media platforms. Simply click join by finding the room in the news feed for the publisher or use the invite link sent to you.
You will then be asked to enter your name, after which you can join the messenger room. In case you want to create your own Messenger Room, then you will need to create a Facebook account as the ability to create rooms is only available to Facebook users for now.
Why is Messenger Rooms not available to me?
Facebook is rolling out this new update in batches which means that it is currently available in only a few select countries for now. If the rollout goes successfully and people do not encountere any issues, then Facebook is expected to rollout Messenger Rooms to the whole world, in the coming few weeks.
