Porsche design has finally come out with a gorgeous implementation on the Huawei Mate 9. Previously Porsche Design was experimented with on the Blackberry, but that turned out looking clunky and lacked the appeal that came with the premium price tag.

The Huawei Mate 9 is the first successful attempt of the Porsche Design leading to a gorgeous premium device. The smartphone screams curves, deep glossy blacks and brushed metal all over, keeping in line with Porsche aesthetics.

The whole unboxing experience is elegant, starting with the premium packaging to the accessories in the box. Inside the box is a custom leather case for the smartphone, which covers a part of the screen and the other part is left open. There is also a card inside, serving as a certificate of authenticity from Porsche Design. The earphones provided in the box are also from Porsche Design and feature in a metal finish.

With the hardware front being a perfect score of 10, the same can’t be said for the software side of things. The silver and gold icons on the home screen do emanate an outdated feel taking us back to 2011. Maybe if Huawei had used a simplistic design language, the hardware and software would have created a feeling of a complete and unique user experience.

The Mate 9 Porsche Design isn’t all just silver and gold, it actually packs a solid punch when it comes to performance. It even beats out the iPhone and the Galaxy Note 7 in app load times. At $1315, it sure is an expensive buy, but that’s the price to pay for luxury. The Mate 9 is expected to hit US by January 6th next year. All variants will be shipping with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with EMUI 5.0 on top.
