Those who’ve been waiting to get more out of their AT&T Optimus G by way of custom ROMs will be happy to know that ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery, the popular Android custom recovery that allows installation of custom ROMs and other modifications, is coming soon to the device, thanks to XDA member thecubed.
The Optimus G comes with a locked bootloader, which usually makes procedures like flashing custom recoveries/ROMs difficult, but by erasing the stock recovery partition, thecubed was able to panic the phone into booting into fastboot mode, where he was able to flash the CWM recovery image, though he’s not yet releasing it as he is working on ironing out some bugs and issues.
However, while it is certainly possible to flash a custom recovery, the procedure remains dangerous due to the locked bootloader, and unless LG takes a leaf out of other manufacturers’ books and provides an official method to unlock the bootloader, chances of bricking the device will remain high.
thecubed has posted a teaser video of CWM recovery running on his AT&T Optimus G, and hopefully he’ll be able to fix serious issues and release the recovery soon, so the Android community can play around and tinker on their Optimus G. Watch the video below, and also visit the source link below for further details on ClockworkMod recovery for the AT&T Optimus G.
